e-Books... Not so new!

For almost 15 years, I’ve talked about the hidden advantages of Adobe Acrobat that most non-creative people are not aware of.  Recently, I embarked on a more aggressive repositioning of my graphic design services to focus mainly on “paperless” communication.  “No Ink or Paper = Savings” is my new direction from a long career in print design.  The money-saving advantage is obvious, but the environment saving is not.  I could write forever about the carbon footprint generated by the printing industry, but not now.

The initial success of tablets like i-Pad and Kindle prompted me to revisit my 15 year conversation about “pdf” formatting as a stand alone e-publication with user-friendly navigation and links.  To read that there were more than 80 tablet launches at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show confirms my new direction.

Two years ago, when e-publishing was relatively unknown, I wrote and designed an e-book titled “The Complete Prepress Guide” for a commercial printing/book manufacturing company, using enhanced pdf creation.  I’m amazed that a printing company recognized the advantages of e-publishing for their customer relations purpose while many others still remain unconvinced.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
